FAQ's

How much is the visit?
The visit, including the examination is $30.00 from 8am to 4pm, $50.00 from 4pm to midnight, and $150 from midnight to 8:00am.

How are the doctors here?
The Veterinary Center is the premiere hospital on Staten Island.  Refer to our doctor’s section for more information.

Do you do surgery here?
The Veterinary Center has a full surgical suite.  Advanced patient monitoring is used to protect our patients, keeping track of their heart rate, blood pressure, temperature, oxygenation, and all important parameters.

How often should I get my pet vaccinated?
New York City currently mandates rabies vaccines.  All pets in the city must be vaccinated.  This is especially important now because of the rabies outbreak on Staten Island.  Other vaccinations are annual at the discretion of the veterinarian and owner.  For clients that object to vaccinations, we offer titers.  None of our vaccinations contain mercury.

What should I do if my dog eats chocolate?
Chocolate in large amounts could harm dogs.  A small amount is usually safe. If there is aNY question, or the pet isn't acting normally, he should be examined.

When should I get my pet spayed or neutered?
Animals make better pets if they are spayed or neutered.  This should be done at about 6 to 8 months of age.

Do you bill?
We accommodate multiple methods of payment, including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, check, cash, and Care Credit.  We however expect payment when services are rendered.

When should I bring my new puppy or kitten in for an exam?
As soon as you decide you are interested in keeping the new pet, it should be examined.  Animals should always be examined prior to introducing them to your pets.

Does my dog need heartworm preventative?
Heartworm has always been a problem on Staten Island, especially in the area of Midland Beach and South Beach.  The disease is transmitted by mosquitoes and with the spraying done to reduce West Nile Disease we have seen a reduction in heartworm also.  It is still a good idea to protect your dog’s heart with a monthly preventative tab.

What time do you close?
The Veterinary Center is always staffed, so you can feel comfortable your pet is cared for 24 hours.  We see clients from 8am to midnight.

Do you have a lab in the hospital?
The Veterinary Center has a full service laboratory on the premises.  Most tests could be done “in house”.  Of course we send some tests to outside labs.

Is Anna there?
We shot her at dawn.

Do I have to make an appointment?
For your convenience, it is always better to make an appointment.  We make every effort to keep to our schedule.  We do however accommodate “walk-ins” for a slightly higher fee.

Do you do dentals here?
We do advanced dental work here.  This is not limited to what you would get at a grooming salon.  We do deep cleanings with ultrasound, treat dental abscesses, and extractions when necessary.
